Here’s my sunshine, and here’s a look of determination!

Cecelia has been casting on for a while now, and just like riding her bike, she said, “Mom, I want to actually knit!” And she did…just like that.  The girl has self-motivation and the willingness to try and try again, but in this circumstance, all it took was one demonstration and she took off all on her own.  Such a proud momma moment.  As I sat  watching her, I saw that tiny stumbling sweetheart take her first step.  I saw my forever baby jump on the bus for her first day of school.  I saw a teetering toddler take off her training wheels and soar down the sidewalk. And now we were sitting on the living room floor knitting together. “Up through the bunny hole, around the back of the tree, back down through the bunny hole and slip it off the needle.”  Don’t know how we got to this place so quickly, but it is both beautiful and bittersweet.

As we sat knitting, the doorbell rang. UPS package with new yarn! Normally I would be giddy.  This time, however, it meant the headache of a stressful project had neared even closer.  I took on another Berroco project, only to realize it was a bit more work than I really wanted.  AND I still have Eleanor’s skirt to finish!  Then I recalled the similar hesitation before beginning the girls’ skirts only to remind myself that it’s been a wonderful learning experience and a fun project to boot.  So, here goes nothing…”please don’t take my sunshine away.”
